12th May:
Early start for the drive from
Cornwall to Weymouth for the 10:00am Condor Fast Catamaran to Guernsey Jersey &
St Malo.
Very rough crossing - I would
have failed drink drive test just on fumes from broken bottles in the on-board
Duty Free :-)
Arrived late but was on site by
16:30pm assembling the 6M7JHV and met Phil MJ0JER and was given access to the
club house at 17:30z. Some problems getting the tri-bander down and the 6M7 up
on the tower as there was no winch on the tower. However, by 21:00 we were all
systems go - almost - the feeder was testing open circuit! Almost dark so no
time to waste - climb the tower and bypass the pre-amp and low loss coax with a
spare length of UR67 :-( Now we are in business. First QSO G4IGO @ 20:50.
Rapidly followed by 4 JT6M country firsts and
a first JT65 eme QSO with Lance W7GJ -
yes - with no preamp and a lot of UR67!!! Into bed @ 01:30 local
zzzzz.

13th May
Breakfast early at the Bergerac Hotel then back to JARS to
find the pre-amp / feeder problem. Never did find the problem - guess it was a
loose connector somewhere - the result of a very long day! Anyway, all systems
go; 400w at the antenna and a low noise preamp on receive. Some small problems
on 50.165 - 50.185 with multiple carriers from the on-site mobile phone pico
site and some very low level noise, but otherwise OK.
Lots of MS, some Es and K6MYC in
the log on JT65 eme. Into bed @ 02:00 (14th) local.

19th May - last day!
An early start and big Es all day. At 16:00z I just had to
pull the big switch - hard to do with a full band. panic to tear down the
station, pack up and get back to St Helier for the ferry - just made it! Had
great fun on the way back to Weymouth via Guernsey - I discovered that my GPRS
card worked well with the laptop - even at sea - so I was able to complete my
logs, update the website and even join ON4KST chat whilst at sea. Back
home and in bed 02:30 local...knackered but happy:-)
